Director of Operations

Vertex Resource Group Ltd. (“Vertex”) and Modern West Climate Finance Group (“Modern West”) have come together to create Wallaby Climate Solutions (“Wallaby”), a strategic joint venture focused on accelerating the development of nature-based climate solutions to reduce atmospheric carbon emissions and enhance biodiversity for customers across North America.

 Vertex Resource Group is a leading environmental services company in North America that will manage field operations and partnerships with Indigenous communities and other landowners.  Modern West Climate Finance is a part of the Modern West Group of Companies, which includes its benchmark business, Modern West Advisory, a strategic advisory firm providing ESG leadership, climate and energy transition strategies. Modern West will utilize its 20 years of carbon market expertise to identify value and manage Wallaby’s project development.

 As a developer of nature based offset solutions and emission removal projects, Wallaby is a project development accelerator, creating an investment vehicle for clients across the economy with hard to abate emission sources to access high quality carbon removal offsets.

OVERVIEW

Wallaby is currently accepting applications for a Director of Operations to drive our North American project development opportunities. The successful candidate will have strong technical experience related to nature-based carbon project development, practical and organizational skills, and a demonstrated ability to communicate and develop rapport with team members and project stakeholders. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated individual with a strong work ethic and the ability to learn quickly, with at least 5 years’ experience in carbon markets.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary degree in environmental science preferred

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in carbon markets

  • High level of comfort working with greenhouse gas emissions quantification methodologies and protocols, including development of emission quantification tools

  • Strong understanding of carbon crediting systems and familiarity with voluntary agencies

  • Experience with emissions modelling and running project assessments

  • Exceptional interpersonal and written communication skills and networking ability with a variety of project stakeholders

  • Self-motivated, pro-active, self-starter, with creative and critical thinking capabilities

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and assignments with a high level of autonomy and accountability for results

RESPONSIBILITIES

  •  Responsible for driving nature-based project outcomes from opportunity identification through assessment, project registration, and ongoing monitoring

  • Review jurisdictional regulations, methodologies, and protocols to identify new carbon offset project opportunities

  • Conduct detailed opportunity assessments including emission reduction modelling for a variety of nature-based project types

  • Evaluate economic returns of different project opportunities and provide recommendations to support appropriate return on investment and development of co-benefits in alignment with Wallaby’s vision and mission

  • Liaise with clients to manage the collection and organization of relevant project and emissions data

  • Support quantification of GHG reductions for projects in accordance with recognized protocols and standards

  • Manage and foster key relationships with project stakeholders as appropriate

 LOCATION

  • This role can be based out of Calgary, Vancouver, Toronto, Houston, or another major centre.
